Jiannis Toulis is combining the principles of the German Violoncello and Viola da Gamba Schools together with key elements of the Mediterranean music culture heritage. As a performer he has delivered worldwide concerts, recordings for TV, Radio and Film productions, covering a wide variety of music genres (Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, music of the 20 and 21st century, Greek, Greek traditional, Balkan, Mediterranean, e.t.c.) As an educator he focuses on the development of the technical skills and the aesthetic evolution of performance practice under a historical prespective, combined with improvisation and applied musicianship skills which are essential for the musician of the 21st century. The main field of his research interests concerns the development of the cello and the cello ensemble as a stand alone, versatile and multitask instrument.
